Job Description

Upstream Solutions Ins. is currently seeking qualified candidates for the position of Senior Instrumentation and Control Engineer based in St. John's.

  • Independently manage and take the lead role in a given project area in terms of safety, quality, project schedule and commitments.
  • Will be the key person in liaising with the customer, vendor and project team for various phases of the project, including development of basis of design, preparation of front end engineering and detailed design packages.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with penchant to develop strong client relationship.
  • Prepare project scope of work, planning and scheduling, work-hour estimates, coordination, progress monitoring and reporting.
  • Prepare instrumentation calculations, data sheets, specifications, selection and sizing, wiring diagrams, installation details, I/O lists, and loop drawings;
  • Develop P&IDs, Cause and Effect Charts, Control Narratives, and Logic Diagrams;
  • Supervise, mentor and guide the Instrumentation team to produce quality engineering deliverable consistent with the project standards and safety requirements.
  • Bachelorís Degree in Engineering with 15 or more years of relevant experience.
  • You are eligible for membership in the Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Newfoundland and Labrador (PEGNL). Other combinations of related education and experience may be considered
  • Efficient in the use of MS Office software suite: Outlook, Excel, Word and Powerpoint
  • Strong technical knowledge of Instrumentation & Controls typically used in the Hydrocarbon, or Mining industries. Experience in Offshore hydrocarbon brownfield or greenfield projects is desirable.
  • Familiar with the engineering and design process and project delivery for EPC projects. This includes front end engineering, cost estimates, gated reviews, detailed engineering and construction.
  • Applying principles of safety in design and engineering established by codes or industrial practice.
  • Familiarity with the design and implementation of Safety Instrumented System.
  • Selection of Instruments, sizing calculations for valves and flowmeters.
  • Good understanding of Control systems including DCS, SIS and PLC including their architecture, integration with field instruments and facility expansion.
  • Candidates must be eligible to work in Canada.
Reporting and Location:
  • The position reports to Manager of Engineering.
  • Opportunity exists in St. Johnís, Newfoundland.
