Job Description

Upstream Solutions Inc. is currently seeking qualified candidates for the position of Estimator to join their client in St. John's, NL.
 
Responsibilities:

  • Prepares material takeoffs on the most complex projects, drawings, and plans.
  • Reviews takeoffs provided by the Engineering Department and checks for mathematical and technical accuracy.
  • Prepares detailed breakdown of components and elements of estimates for systems and subsystems.
  • Accumulates, evaluates, and documents historical cost data and construction procedures and methods in order to maintain current estimating standards and databases.
  • Prepares and summarizes task and subtask estimates, including rate and unit cost determination and performing mathematical calculations by applying standard factors.
  • Reviews contractual documents and contract modifications to determine scope of work and scope changes. Assigns material and labour costs to the takeoffs. Obtains telephone quotes for materials and services.
  • Performs other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate.
Requirements:
  • BA/BS in related field or applicable discipline preferred, or equivalent years experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of applicable theories, practices, and accepted procedures.
  • Generally 5-7 years of experience.
  • Possesses and is recognized as having a specialized depth or breadth of expertise within the department. Interprets internal and external business challenges with impact on the organization and recommends best practice solutions.
  • Contributes to implementation plan development and program coordination.
  • Advanced proficiency with applicable software applications in related field. Advanced analytical and problem solving skills. Accuracy and attention to detail critical. Ability to meet deadlines and manage priorities is critical.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English are essential to effectively teach what they know to other employees.
  • Commitment to customer service and ability to lead functional project teams is important. Ability to maintain confidential information is critical.
  • Very rarely requires supervision and direction beyond providing desired outcomes.
  • Typically will regularly interface with departmental staff and middle and upper management, and frequently with outside customers.

Based on local regulations (Atlantic Accord) first consideration will be given to qualified Newfoundland and Labrador residents (those currently residing in province).  Those outside theprovince,wishing to repatriate, will be considered a strong second in priority.
