Job Description

Upstream Solutions Inc is currently seeking qualified candidates for the position of Training Lead to support the Lower Churchill Project.

DEPARTMENT: Business Services – Human Resources

DIRECTION RECEIVED:
  • Work performed under the direction of the LCP Labour Relations and Team Effectiveness Lead in a supportive capacity on the development and delivery of training initiatives for the Lower Churchill Project.
DIRECTION EXERCISED:
  • Provides direction, supervision and guidance within the training function for Lower Churchill Project.
SUMMARY OF JOB FUNCTION:
  • The Training Role provides continuous leadership and guidance to the training team responsible for the identification for training and development of the Lower Churchill Project including:  Safety, Environment, job specific and technical requirements.
PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • The following is being executed as a contract scope of work:
  • Responsible for the development and implementation of a Training Strategy specific to the Lower Churchill Project
  • Identify training needs and requirements for all LCP sites and offices and ensure that the needs are met by working with the training department to coordinate and implement the training programs.
  • Develop short and long term plans to continuously develop the training programs and systems.
  • Develop, coordinate, and implement special training projects off site in conjunction with IBA commitments to Innu Nation.
  • Develop training systems designed to develop, deliver and track LCP training programs.
  • Research, design and benchmark training and education programs.
  • Ensure that all personnel receive the required training and are in compliance with the appropriate legislative and regulatory requirements
  • Provide site training requirements to Project Contractors
  • Work with and monitor Contractors to ensure all site training requirements are met
  • Work with Labour organizations to develop and deliver pre-site training requirements outlined in executed collective agreements
  • Liaise with NL Benefits department to ensure commitments related to training outlined in the LCP Benefits Strategy, LCP Gender Equity and Diversity Program, and the LCP Environmental Impact Statement are fulfilled
  • Work with NL Benefits departments to optimize external opportunities relating to training and workforce preparation
  • Work with Project and Contractors Safety departments to ensure required safety components are part of all training programs
  • Work with stakeholders to determine, plan and meet training goals required to ensure the success of the project
EDUCATION:
  • Bachelor of Business Administration/Commerce or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
EXPERIENCE:
  • Minimum of 10 years experience in the Human Resources/ Training and Development with past experience in the development and implementation of training programs and strategies as well as experience on large construction projects.
SPECIAL SKILLS, JOB REQUIREMENTS, WORKING CONDITIONS, ETC.:
  • Self-starting, proactive individual with ability to act independently.
  • Strong presentation and delivery skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills paired with strong leadership qualities.
  • Very strong interpersonal skills and an ability to work with others from widely diverse backgrounds in collaborative team/work group environments.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite
  • Knowledge of the Provincial and Federal Acts and Regulations that apply to industry in Newfoundland and Labrador
  • Knowledge of and experience working with the Provincial Apprenticeship Board and the skilled trades
  • Ability to build relationships with aboriginal communities, local training and education institutions, industrial training and post-secondary education branches of the provincial government
  • Strong understanding of Construction Processes and Procedures
  • Strong understanding of safety regulations and safe work practices
  • Familiarization with respectful workplace best practices
  • Must be willing to travel to Labrador on a regular basis.
