Upstream Solutions Inc. is currently seeking qualified candidates for the position of Civil Engineer to support the Lower Churchill Project.
Receives direction from Engineering Manager and Senior Engineer. Reports directly to the Civil Engineering Manager. Work priorities and direction are received from the Civil Engineering Manager.
May be required to provide technical direction and advice to junior or graduate engineers and on site representatives/inspectors on specific technical issues.
SUMMARY OF JOB FUNCTION:
Performs the duties of a Civil Engineer including planning, detailed design, undertaking technical and economic studies. This involves all aspects of design from conceptual stage and prefeasibility studies through to final feasibility, budget development and cost estimating for the annual and long term Capital Budgeting Program. Design and estimation of a wide variety of civil structures including concrete and steel structures and buildings plus involvement with hydro technical issues related to dams and dam safety. Develops maintenance practices, contracts and other technical documentation to ensure work is carried out efficiently.
PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Develops reports and studies regarding technical problems, new initiatives.
Maintains a current knowledge of the industry, best practices, and new developments.
Additional duties and responsibilities as defined divisional and departmental mandates.
Review work in progress by hydro staff, consultants and contractors and reviews completed work to ensure accuracy, achievement of required results and adherence to accepted engineering practice.
Provide technical support, as required, with operating problems in generating plants and may be required to supervise Hydro and Contractors' personnel in the solution of these problems.
Prepare Budget Proposals with justification and cash flows and researches these proposals for more optimum designs and applications.
Perform design and analysis and prepare detailed drawings and contract documents for a wide variety of civil works.
Graduation from a recognized university with a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering and with a P. Eng. Status membership in PEG NL.
A suggested minimum of 12 years of experience working with an electrical utility, heavy industrial and/or oil and gas industry is normally required.
Specific experience in design estimating of various civil projects, including concrete and steel structures, buildings and earth works is required.
Knowledge of hydrology and hydraulics in a hydro technical setting would be a definite asset.
SPECIAL SKILLS, JOB REQUIREMENTS, WORKING CONDITIONS, ETC.:
This position is primarily in an office environment with occasional travel to remote sites possibly involving aircraft and helicopters.
From time to time the individual will be required to work in construction or industrial environments where they may be exposed to hazardous environments that are dirty, noisy and potentially hazardous.
Knowledge of hydrology and hydraulics in the hydro technical field (water retaining and flow through structures).
