Job Description

Upstream Solutions Inc are currently seeking qualified candidates for the position of Structural Engineer to support the Wellhead Platform (WHP) Project Team.

This position is primarily responsible for supporting project scopes related to the topsides components on the WHP. This position is responsible for coordinating and integrating with the WHP Engineering Contractor and the WHP Project Team during the execution of topsides structural engineering throughout all Phases of the WHP Project. This is a contract position for the duration of the WHP Project.
  • Utilize and apply the Project Delivery Model (PDM) process’ for Atlantic Region WHP Project
  • Coordinate and integrate structural engineering deliverables for the WHP Topsides design
  • Support the Topsides Lead in managing key project variables related to topsides structural design and functionality from project conception to completion of engineering as it progresses through the fabrication phase
  • Coordinate with project stakeholders as required to ensure successful project execution
  • Monitor key progress indicators for topsides structural engineering by reviewing, interpreting, presenting and maintaining project data gathered from internal and external sources such as the Engineering Contractor, Suppliers, Fabrication Contractor and Operations personnel
  • Ensure the Engineering Contractor has prepared an optimum design, taking into consideration the equipment, material and systems required for a fully functional WHP
  • Review and report on all weight control functions performed by the Engineering Contractor
  • Participate in HAZID and HAZOP sessions
  • Support constructability reviews performed by the Engineering Contractor
  • Coordinate and support the use of well proven and innovative solutions for project development and lessons learned
  • Prepare and contribute to presentation materials to illustrate and communicate engineering and fabrication progress and results
  • Contribute to weekly progress reports for internal and monthly reporting to Management, Partner(s), and Regulatory Authorities
i. Required
  • Bachelors Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
  • Member in good standing, or eligible for registration with Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Newfoundland and Labrador (PEGNL)
  • Minimum 10 years specific experience in the design and engineering of offshore topsides structures
  • Specific engineering knowledge of upstream offshore facilities
  • Demonstrable knowledge of fixed and subsea offshore oil & gas facilities, including operations, and familiar with all aspects of multi disciplined projects involving engineering, procurement, fabrication, construction and commissioning requirements
  • Practical experience and knowledge of offshore structures fabrication and construction practices
  • Strong understanding of the interaction of project drivers, specifically technical, economical, schedule and commercial
  • Knowledge and understanding of Regulatory and CNLOPB Regulatory requirements
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated experience of working with a Client’s Team and integration with the
  • Engineering Contractor
  • Excellent communication, leadership and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work closely with teams of engineering staff and contractors as well as with others outside the formal organization
  • Knowledge of offshore industry standards and procedures for structural design of offshore platforms
  • Ability to use various standard structural engineering analysis software
ii. Asset
  • Knowledge of all project design and engineering stages for the construction of the WHP
  • Experience working with a large Engineering Contractor would be an asset
  • Overall engineering knowledge for the various disciplines involved in a Wellhead Platform facility
  • Demonstrated ability to advise on strategic decisions, influence successful outcomes, guide decision making and problem solving
  • As a non-safety sensitive position it is an expectation that this position perform work offshore as required and/or requested.
  • This position may require occasional travel to construction site or engineering offices, to locations both within Newfoundland and international locations
