Job Description

Upstream Solutions Inc is currently seeking qualified applicants for the position of Senior Accountant located in St. John's, NL.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Provide joint interest, royalty and accounting support for Eastern Canada Assets. 
  • Provide royalty cost reporting and analysis support related to current and historical joint account and owners filings.
  • Provide analysis of agreement clauses
  • Provide monthly and quarterly monitoring and stewardship of status of audits and outstanding issues.
  • Assessment of current accounting procedures/processes for improvement, assessment of automation opportunities, and conduct activity analysis
  • Lead / facilitate continous improvement (CI) projects for Controllers group
  • Provide support to the JI Accounting Supervisor and legal counsel with regard to the royalty determinations, audits and appropriate responses to the regulatory bodies
  • Researches and provides analytical interpretions with regard to specific royalty agreement sections based on the application of relevant Canadian GAAP, IFRS, PASC guidance
  • Coordinate / support EMC Royalty Audits
  • Monitoring, analysis and resolution of outstanding audit issues
  • Review and restatement of monthly and annual reports
  • Compliance review of commercial agreements
  • Examination of billing processes
  • Monitoring progress of CI projects for Controllers group
  • Interface Responsibilities:
  • Liase with Eastern Canada Controllers staff
  • Liase with auditors
Desired Qualifications / Experience:
  • 10 years accounting experience
  • Strong audit and controls experience
  • University degree with a major in accounting
  • Professional accounting designation preferred
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Strong system skills (experience in SAP an asset)
  • Well organized, ability to multitask and meet deadlines
  • Good communication skills
  • Based on local regulations (Atlantic Accord) first consideration will be given to qualified Newfoundland and Labrador residents (those currently residing in province).  Those outside theprovince,wishing to repatriate, will be considered a strong second in priority.
