Job Description

Upstream Solutions Inc (USI) is currently seeking applications for the position of (G148) Mechanical Superintendent in connection with the development of the Hebron Project, one of Newfoundland and Labrador's premier Oil and Gas Projects.

REPORTS TO: Mechanical Outfitting Lead or Construction Site Lead
SUPERVISES: GBS Contractor Onsite Mechanical Installation and Fabrication Activities
Oversee the GBS mechanical construction and prefabrication activities at the Bull Arm Fabrication Facility.
  • Manage and Drive Worker Safety Programs.
  • Oversee Contractor’s organization and their subcontractors with regards to mechanical construction activities such as onsite prefabrication, structural and piping installation, welding, electrical and instrumentation installation, lifting and rigging, material logistics, and temporary construction utilities.
  • In some cases, responsibilities may extend to offsite prefabrication, site running/operations, and civil construction oversight.
  • Provide the interface between the work face and the Mechanical Outfitting Lead and Construction Site Lead.
  • Ensure establishment and proper implementation of work processes at the site level as stipulated in the Construction Management Plan, Quality Management Plan, and other supporting documents.
  • Monitor, investigate, identify, and resolve site level mechanical construction issues, evaluate metrics, and provide feedback to responsible line management as required.
  • Technical document review and comment of Contractor’s construction documents.
  • Ensure good communications and relations with the Contractor and their subcontractors.
  • Champion on-site safety awareness and safe performance among Project Team members.
  • Identify and work to eliminate site hazards, unsafe conditions, and unsafe acts; work with Company, Contractor, and subcontractor management to achieve an injury-free work place.
  • Assist Contractor in planning prior to the start of work.
  • Serve as day-to-day interface with Contractor and craft labor during the Construction Phase, providing a focus on safety, quality, cost, and schedule
  • Provide safety monitoring/leadership
  • Interface with QA/QC personnel to address quality issues/progress
  • Provide oversight of contractor’s materials management/verification systems
  • Ensure compliance with specifications, procedures, and plans
  • Monitor workforce productivity and progress relative to schedule
  • Monitor environmental compliance, as required
  • Interface with contractor for field level changes, e.g. scope, costs, etc.
  • Verify post-site arrival of procured equipment and materials
  • Provide on-site support to the Mechanical Outfitting Lead / Construction Site Lead as required.
  • Keep management apprised of significant construction and quality issues and plans towards resolving issues.
  • Provide assistance to and participate in mechanical construction readiness reviews, count down meetings, and risk assessments.
  • Provide support to pre-commissioning/mechanical completion/systems completion as required.
  • Coordinate Quality Audits and other site surveillance activities including Documents for Operations (DFO).
  • Attend and participate in all mandatory Contractor and Company training programs and seminars, including computer-based programs.
  • To perform assignments in a safe and diligent manner, follow labor safety rules, timely inform the supervisor about any incidents, injuries, near misses and potential hazards at his/her working place or at others’ working places if witnessed.
  • Perform other duties as required.
  • Provide knowledge transfer to develop Early Career Professionals.
  • Prefer college level education or equivalent.
  • Minimum 15 years relevant industry experience working/overseeing mechanical construction and installation activities.
  • 5+ years of client organization experience preferred with oil and gas operator.
  • Read, write, and speak fluent English
  • Proficient in use of computers and Microsoft Office tools.
Based on local regulations (Atlantic Accord) first consideration will be given to qualified Newfoundland and Labrador residents (those currently residing in province).  Those outside the province, wishing to repatriate, will be considered a strong second in priority.
